This site has a nice guide about how to build a PC yourself and how to install the OS ect. Might help some noobs that are looking into a custom but not sure how to do it.

its not like its really that hard x.x..if you wanna know how and be able to do it, all you gotta do is try. i know shit all about computers and i built mine w/o a site, only prob for me was a minor error in the application of thermal paste, and a DOA mobo x.x

nope...i made my pc myself...explains why
On boot up, display shows incorrect CPU type/speed
* Check the motherboard manual for the appropriate CPU jumper settings (where applicable)
* Check BIOS settings for CPU type (see Motherboard Manual)
* Perform a BIOS reset procedure
* Perform a BIOS update (with an updated BIOS, the Motherboard may support your CPU)
* This may indicate a faulty/old motherboard
i found this but i have very little knowledge of pc's heard its risky doing this too cuz it could fuck ur pc up...think ill pay someone to do it for meh

Lol, minor errors can be hazardous there.
I bought my Athlon boxed, and it already had the thermal paste stuck on the chip. There was just a plastic covering over it, so it didn't stick to anything.

Some motherboards have jumpers to set the FSB to the correct speed, these motherboard suck. I'd recommend you get one that is managed by the BIOS. If you have one, try checking the Front Side Bus speed, or the multiplier, or just set the bios to default. If you can't get to the bios because of a password for some reason, take out the battery for 5 minutes and replace. Its not risky as long as you don't overclock it.

It might be the right socket, but did you get one w/ the right FSB? I think Intels have variables... I think... *Never owned a pentium, and proud of it.*
Oh, you said Sempron... same could be true, but I didn't know there was a 2.8GHz sempron x.x... I must be going n00bish. I'll have to read Toms Hardware guide more often...

Well, the only 2.8GHz processor I know of that AMD has is the AMD64X2 4800+ San Diego 2.8Ghz. C has a nice sempron ATM and its 1.9GHz x.x. He just got it... maybe a year ago.

Yeah, thats pretty much it O.o. If I were there w/ your computer I could probably fix it, but trying to explain things isn't my forte x.x. Maybe GDR or Ara or someone can help you.

When did you get the board and when did you get the processor? Does the board support the speed of the processor? If the board is much older than the processor, but the processor is supported, sounds to me like you need a BIOS update. LOL, not that bad, it is a ROM chip so yeah ya don't want to do it if your having a storm or your computer has a habit of turning off during things. And of course, you want to make SURE you have the correct BIOS update software for your specific board. Follow the procedures which are not that hard and make sure nobody turns your machine off or anything like that while it writes to the ROM chip. The writting to the chip only takes about a minute. This is what I would assume at first provided your processor is compatable, with the information you have thus provided so far.

all amd processors and the new intels dont run at the spped they say on the box. my cousins sempron 3200 runs at 1.6 ghz. Another example: my athlon xp 2000+ runs at 1666Mhz. But i would assume you all know that so why did i post this again?

I'm not sure... I'm also not sure why you posted in a nearly 8 month old thread. :p
