I've decided to have a bannner contest. Earn the right to have your art work displayed at the top of the page for everyone to see.

The top 3 will cycle endlessly, unless the top 3 suck and only one is good, and if all of them suck we'll just wrap it up and pretend it never happened.

Not really I think. The other problem with it is that it's supposed to be the heading banner for a website. Such things are generally not looped, and if it was allowed to be looped, why would GDR have asked that it fade into the background (which would be completely covered if it looped). Also headings are supposed to display the title of the website as the main text - that one displayed a "motto". It would do an awesome job as an advertising banner, for display on other websites etc; but not so good as a heading for this one.

I dont think any of the ones posted will work. Kim, yours is close as hell, but itll still make that blocky-look when applied to the forum skin. The right edge has to be like..completely plain except for the background supplied.

Yeah, but renders are cheap. Make a good sig without using renders and I'll be impressed. I love sigs that don't use typical anime renders, because those that do are boring boring boring.

Just know that so long as you slap a generic background under a generic anime render with generic brush lighting, you won't really go any further than that and you'll end up with generic sigs all the time. This may seem harsh, but I know this from experience, ;).

I'm not saying you have to make a render from scratch, I'm just saying that every piece you make doesn't have to rely on a render to make it work. So far, they nearly all do.

Yes, those are exactly the kind of blend-into-the-background banners that GDR was talking about. I like the second one best though.

Also note though, there's a tiny white blur beside the right edge of the page (on both of them), when placed on the background that will really stand out so you should remove it; which won't be hard to do, lol. Other than that the banners are perfect.

Looks ok, but you need to use the dimensions of the example image, and fade it into the background given. See the first post for more info.

If you bring the snow, the white dots i mean, over the area where there's no ice around it, but lower the opacity a lot, you can give it the 'snow blew away now melting' look so it doesnt just like poof to not snowyiceness.

Looks good, put a shadow behind the letters if you can, this way the white stands out a lil bit more.

Anything sans-serif, and not pixellated like that text appears to be.

Also take away the border, otherwise it won't blend in with the background.

Other than that, I quite like the way it's turned out. Any of those colours look really good, with that abstract design in the back.

Ya. I still don't have the tween thing mastered. Maybe if GDR likes this one, I can ask Ara to fix the animation a bit smoother - or remove it....w/e. Also, I made it so any image can be put into the center - so it can be changed monthly, etc....or whenever GDR wants a change.

Tommi's will almost work, there's just a tiny bit of white at the far edge.

The top one of Kimmi's, in post 121 will almost work (it has a kinda blue blur extending to the far right edge), but the bottom one has the gray too dark.

Lol, I thought Odessa had it when she made that gray one, it blended in perfectly.

Why has almost nobody been able to blend the banner into the background? Is it so hard? Even just doing a normal image, then doing a transparent gradient into the gray of the background would work, wouldn't it?

This is why I submitted an entry, so people could see how the banner blends into the background, so much so that you can hardly see the edges of the image because it matches the background colour. Highlight the image if you want to see the actual borders of it. That is how it's supposed to be. I know it may not look as good as other peoples', but at least it blends in.

Yeah, the gray one does work.

Its only hard because usually people have alot going on in all parts of the sig, but with this it has to be toned down alot at that edge, i guess its just because its not like most people do things.
