I think you just download Steam and log in, then you should be able to get counter-strike without buying it. That's what I did when I got my new comp
how do you download steam... site ? ?

turn any hacks/memory debuggers you have running off ;) (as in for any game)

you dont need the disc, you just login to steam and let it update. its as simple as that.

Make sure that you remember your account name/password. >_>;;
how do I know of any debuggers... this is my work's computer.... I don't think it does have any. It might not have enough memory.... or else i think I might have to reinstall it.. ? idk.. but it's not working :(
Here is the exact hl2.exe - Application Error...
The instruction at "0x00000000" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program.
so there you have it. I can't make anything out of it..

i cant suggest anything without being there :)
but that is an memory access allocation error. meaning its being protected somehow from being touched in any shape or form (normally happens when you try editing/force setting your memory/registers )
the error does not indicate anything about you not having enough memory (and btw when you get an error about memory it is not referring to your hard disk but your RAM memory ;) )
my one suggestion would be if you know a decent registry cleaner, use it. but to date i have never tried a reg cleaner so i dont know how good they are :P

Since when? I've downloaded source multiple times through Steam without the CD's, and you don't need them to play either.
And what are the stats on the computer you are trying to play it on?

I don't understand it completely but it's all like some HL2 engine or something, all the source games are like that.

You don't need a disc at all. If you think about it, people have steam since 1.6, all they would have to do is make a purchase of CS:S, and they would then have that on their steam account. They would not have any cd's to go along with that.
hmmm.. well I don't know. this computer is a x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping lol.... 392,688 KB RAM

Yeah, pretty sure your problem is just the computer then.
Yeah, after reading it's specs. I deleted it so that the fucking computer wouldn't crash and I'd be in some shit. Thanks for the help though guys!
