Call signs are for pilots not airplanes. if you ever watched Top Gun the pilots have call signs not the planes.
anyway yeah i dont see what the funny part is.

Er, no, the call sign in aviation is on the outside of the plane.

Serpent it's usually called the tail number on the end of the plane, but as you can see that plane doesn't have any numbers on it so call sign is more fitting. And no, call signs aren't just for the pilots

i used to be in aviation for the navy planes dont have call signs pilots do. planes as you said have tail numbers if they dont have those then they cant fly or if they are spotted they can be fined, jailed, or have thier plane impounded if those numbers arent on the plane. those numbers verify who own the plane so if it stolen they can trace the plane back to the owner. basically those numbers are a liscense plate for a airplane.

Lol I'm a pilot now. I've almost completed my instrument rating but I already hold my private single engine and multiengine pilots license. When tower doesn't hear how a pilot identifies himself and his aircraft, tower says back "aircraft calling, say callsign." The pilot doesn't say "MAVERICK!", he states the call sign/ tail number of his aircraft (Wiskey Tango Fxotrot in this case). You're thinking of a military pilots code name

a.k.a call sign. dude i know several pilots both in the military and out they have both said to me that planes dont have call signs when the tower asks to identify themselves they say the numbers on the tail which their I.D to land and for a flight plan.
so it would be in the military anyway...Example: sparky(pilot) niner tango victor(plane) requesting to land...... roger sparky land on runway 2a....roger that tower over and out.
pilots don't give out their RL name even commercial airliners do that i know a commercial air pilot from the house i go to for bible study i asked him about what he does and when he said commercial pilot i asked if it was the same as the military he said yes.
oh btw i used to be a AT in the navy working on the communications and navigation equipment on board the E2-C hawk eye so i've learned pilot talk quite well and the workings of a airplane.

I am a pilot. You seem to miss that part. I've been flying since I was 15. Lets look at the word call - sign now. It's simply a word refering to how the air traffic controller can identify the aircraft and the pilot when they need to contact them. The tail number IS the call sign in general aviation and with the airlines. Ask any other general aviation pilot or airline pilot and he'll tell you tail number = call sign. It might be different in the military, but the picture wasn't of a military aircraft. Like I said before, when ATC doesn't hear how the pilot identified himself (the tail number on the plane), ATC will call back "Aircraft calling, say callsign (which is the tail number on the plane)."

U.S. Air Force
Fixed call signs for the United States Air Force stations begin with A, such as AIR, used by USAF Headquarters. The USAF also uses semi-fixed identifiers consisting of a name followed by a two or three digit number. The name is assigned to a unit on a semi-permanent basis; they change only when the U.S. Department of Defense goes to DEFCON 3. For example, JAMBO 51 would be assigned to a particular B-52 aircrew of the 5th Bomb Wing, while NODAK 1 would be an F-16 fighter with the North Dakota Air National Guard.
The most recognizable call sign of this type is Air Force One, used when any Air Force aircraft is transporting the U.S. President. Similarly, when the President is flown in a U.S. Marine Corps helicopter, the call sign is Marine One. When President George W. Bush, a former Air National Guard fighter pilot, was flown to the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln in a Navy S-3B Viking, it was the first use of the "Navy One" call sign.
Individual military pilots or other flight officers usually adopt a personal aviator call sign.
You're telling me a pilot goes by Air Force One? Haha.

He's trying to say that callsigns are for pilots only cause that's how it works in the navy. Well that's not true for the rest of us pilots. I mean some AIRPLANES can have callsigns such as Lifegaurd or Justice if they're carrying medical supplies or prisoners, but that's still for the airplane and the tail number still follows immediately after stating Justice or whatever. In the case of the airplane in the picture, the call sign would be Cirrus Wiskey Tango Foxtrot because of the make of the airplane. That is that aircrafts callsign when contacting ATC. Other examples would be Cessna 5461 Bravo. Call signs aren't for pilots in GA or airlines, it's just simply the way a pilot identifies himself and the aircraft to air traffic control
