Why would you want to install Windows 98?
Erased as in reformat?

I think the solution to this issue is an OS upgrade to a completely and absolutely fully legal copy of XP Pro, provided your computer can run it :p.

what do you mean it won't let you?
Have you used fdisk to create a partition and then formated that partition?

Ah, the days of Windows 98 has long past for me. I recall having a start-up disk (3.5" floppy disk) for Windows 98 that I placed in the floppy drive and also had the Win98 CD in the CD-ROM drive.
Then you go into BIOS and have it boot from floppy (if you have the Win98 start-up floppy disk). If not, try setting it to boot from CD and make sure you have your CD in. It should let you delete your old partition, create a new partition, format your HDD and install Windows 98 fresh.
I personally would just get Windows XP Professional 32-bit and scrap Windows 98. Or buy a new cheap computer. I only spent $3000 for my set up, but could build a killer computer pretty cheap. Heck, I still have my 2 "older" computers that I don't use anymore and are better than most other people's computers. They both run Windows XP Professional easily.
