Crazy. I'm not much for British politics, but I've always liked Blair. It'll be interesting to see if there's much backlash from his decision. I don't know much on Gordon Brown, anybody wanna fill me in?
Gordon Brown is Chancellor of the Exchequer (basically, he runs British financial affairs) and the probable successor of Tony Blair. He's Scottish, as are a lot of other high ranking labour politicians. A new scandal has recently been unveiled which pretty well destroys his Tax Credits system - it's probably not a coincidence that it happened to come out now. I've always thought he's capable of leadership but he seems to lack the oratory skill and charisma of Blair. Either way, there's not many other popular labour MPs who're racing for the position, so it's pretty much guaranteed he'll become the next leader of the Labour Party.
This next paragraph will probably require some knowledge of British politics, so be afraid. Anyway, Blair's foreign policy will always be tarnished by the Iraq war whereas his domestic policy will always be marred by the cash for honours scandal. However, the overall domestic prosperity can't be ignored. I strongly support what Labour have done for the education and welfare systems, and they've run a decent and efficient police force. The Home Office isn't quite to standard, but a few misgivings shouldn't deter people from looking at the positive sides of Blair's tenure. There's definitely room for improvement though, and I just hope Gordon Brown can be as personally skilful as Blair has been.
